Lap Band Adjustments

Included with proper nutrition and exercise in Lap Band Life After will be patients needing to make a number of visits to their doctor's office for band adjustment. The band adjustment is a normal part of the lap band procedure.

On average, patients may need six to eight adjustments of the band during the first 18 months after the lap band procedure.

In all likelihood, a patient in their Lap Band Life After experience will receive their initial band adjustment anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks following surgery. The adjustments are done without surgery and take less than half an hour in a doctor’s office. As a patient notices a weight decline, added adjustments could be needed.

The band, which is constructed to stay in a patient for their lifetime, may be loosened or tightened to meet their needs. Most importantly, the body must adjust to the new band, and some swelling immediately after Lap Band surgery is not considered uncommon.
